History
Located near to the Keelung River the Shilin district
has been home to a market at least since 1909, though
informal trading at the river wharfs goes back in
further. The original Shilin Market building was
demolished in 2002 and for 10 years the market vendors
were in temporary venues, but in 2012 the new Shilin
Market building opened and now houses the main food
						hall.

As with most markets the Shilin Market attracted other stalls and shops around the building, and it is these all together that now form the Shilin Night Market.
While the food hall represents one of the most organised parts of the market, most visitors enjoy also the roads nearby where street vendors sell their wares.
